I love Adelitas but what happened to the barell Margaritas? They have always been my favorite and when I went back today they were way too sweet that I wasn't able to drink it. Please, please, please, go back to your old recipe.

If they had chunky salsa with cilantro I think I might bump it up to 5 stars. Otherwise this is the best and most interesting Mexican food I've had in Cedar Rapids. Clean, attractive and friendly atmosphere. I can't remember the name but I had Shrimp in chipotle cream sauce - yum! Our well travelled friend just had to try the oysters on the half shell. She said that while they were not your typical ones, they were very good. They were topped with sort of a Pico de Gallo with chopped shrimp. Even though I don't normally eat raw oysters, I tried a couple and I think I may be hooked. There are many interesting dishes to try on the menu. For this reason we'll be back and next time we're going to try the Ceviche.

Great chips and salsa, yummy fajitas, service is a little slow but great food and giant portions and for such a great price so be sure to bring your appetite!

Warm chips and a good tomato salsa. I started my order with a michelada, which came in a huge glass with a salted rim. Unfortunately, they add shrimp to the michelada, so there was a very distinct shrimp flavor to the mix - I didn't enjoy that. I ordered the tacos champanegos, they come individually wrapped in foil. Thoroughly enjoyed the chicken/chorizo filling, especially after topping if off with their cheese spread! They have jalapeños torreados and excellent rice and beans. Overall, not bad. I think I'll check out the other mexican restaurants in the area first before I decide to come back.

Was driving from Minnesota on the way to Missouri and my husband located this restaurant on Yelp. It is now one of my all time favorite Mexican restaurants. The stuffed pineapple with citrus shrimp with a bit of a bite was decadently delicious! It was an "Mmmmm" out loud kind of good. The server was right on when I asked about this dish with his "really, REALLY good" reply.

Hubby and I have eaten at Adelitas multiple times and we really like this place. Service is friendly and fast. Reviewers who mentioned that the entry gets congested are right, but they do their best to seat people quickly. We've had the best service when we make eye contact, are friendly too, and ask questions. The barrel margaritas are WAY too strong for me, but the owner told me one day that they also make a bucket version and gave me a sample. That's what I always order, jumbo size please. Meal specials, punch cards for lunches, great prices, delicious food and good service make Adelitas are favorite for authentic Mexican food. We actually ate there last night and are bringing daughter and boyfriend there with us tonight. Yep, we like it there.

Love this place! Awesome food. I do get the same thing every time, cactus nachos, but don't hear anyone else complain about theirs. Great cheese dip, food and service

The street tacos are amazeballs especially the tacos pastor. The lunch specials are very affordable and large portion. Very authentic.

Yum! BEST queso AND salsa that I've had in CR! Queso is just a tad spicy, which is really nice and different than any others I've had in town. Salsa had just a touch of sweet to it. Ordered just an enchilada and soft taco Ala carte. Both were very tasty. I sat at the bar since I was by myself. While I was there, a gentleman came up and asked for the Pepsi he had ordered and not received and then two girls came to pay their bill that they had never received as well - hence the 4 and not 5 stars. I will absolutely come back with my hubby for more queso and salsa!

Simply put this place is horrible even for Iowa standards of Mexican food. The margaritas were terrible, the salsa tasted like a bad jar of Tostitos Salsa, and the service was just O.K. So far the best two Mexican Restarants in Cedar Rapids are Taco Bell, Panchero's, and my house. I am not kidding.

Boring food, nothing special . The waitstaff was friendly and attentive but nothing would bring me back for a second meal.

Delicious! We had ceviche, street tacos and fajitas. It was all really good and the portions were huge! We took over half of it home with us. The pastore tacos were by far my favorite of the three kinds that came in the street tacos.

The Macajete was awesome. Carne asada was seasoned well and chicken breast had a good marinaded flavor. Not a huge fan of the cactus but it was not bad. The chorizo swimming at the bottom of this lovely bowl was probably my favorite thing. I sat at the bar which was deserted except for the bartender and some servers rolling silverware and chatting. It was not bad company but I was surprised how slow they were, but it was Wednesday night. Overall good experience and I didn't regret passing some other Mexican restaurants on the way here. I would come back.

Adelitas, please realize that your service is slipping. I had suggested this to friends and so we headed over on Friday night. Got there at 5:30 and we were ahead of the rush. Chips and salsa came right away. After 10 minutes I flagged down the owner?/manager and asked if someone was going to take a drink order for us. He went over to a service and pointed out our table and appeared to be laughing about it. Server came and got the drink order and brought them quickly. That was the last prompt and correct order we had. From the special orders not being correct; no tomatoes on the fajitas please, yet they came with plenty. To the 15 minutes it took to get another margarita after it was ordered. Come on, it was on the rocks. The service was terrible. Another couple who I know where there Friday as well and when I spoke to her on Sunday she said there service was terrible as well.

My wife and I absolutely love Adelitas and go often. The menu is very reasonably priced and the food is fresh and authentic. Nice open layout and it isn't usually noisy.

Same menu (and ownership?) as Villas in Marion. Atmosphere and margaritas are much better at Villas but it would do in a pinch. The crowd is better at Villas too.

Absolutely horrible service. We ordered queso but didn't receive any chips to go with the queso maybe the new thing is to eat the queso with a spoon?!? We had to ask for chips and had to ask many times for drinks as well..

I was out of town on business and was looking for a place with good authentic Mexican food. I found the service to be very good and the food to be okay at Adeltias. I had the Chimichanga which was good, but found in general that things were not very highly flavored. To me, the chips were cold and seem to have been done well in advance. The beans and rice were nothing special.

Really pleasantly surprised. The salsa wasn't very consistent (both tasted different) but you know it's hand made. I didn't order anything too complicated but the food was very good.

Have visited Adelitas on several occasions and it is sometimes good and sometimes not so good. Disappointed in the shrimp and crabmeat enchiladas since they should be advertised as crabmeat enchiladas. There was no shrimp. Servers don't speak much English so it is difficult to communicate with them. Have had lunch there a few times and it is a good place to go if you are in a hurry since food comes out quickly. Always very clean inside.

Good food and service. Had the chicken quesadilla with rice and it was one of the best around. Girlfriend had the steak tacos and she enjoyed them. Also Two margaritas and they were superb

Very impressed. Went there with 6 people and everyone was happy. Alot of food for the money and the quality was excellent.

When I first walked into this place I thought it was a fast food restaurant for a minute just based on the environment and the way the dining room looks, but I was actually quite surprised by the quality. The portions were big and the service was fast and friendly. Prices were pretty average, but I would definitely come back again, probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area.

I recently saw the KCRG best of list and was seriously disappointed to NOT see Adelitas on the menu. Very fresh authentic mexican food that goes beyond every other places tacos and enchiladas. I highly encourage people to try the dishes that have cactus in them! Hard to find anywhere else and DELICIOUS! The service is Great and we recommend Daniel, he goes above and beyond and the Salsa and Margaritas are the BEST I have found in Cedar Rapids! I am not from here originally and have tried almost every place in town to find our favorite. After trying Adelitas, I want to look no further because I find I am disappointed! Keep the great times and food coming!

Adelitas is my new fave in the locally overly saturated Mexican restaurant market. It is part of a group of 3 area Mexican restaurants that serve almost the same food at each location. The food is well prepared, tasty and inexpensive. I only pick Adelitas over the other two locations because it is closer to where I live. I have eaten there often and have never had a badly prepared dish or bad service. Chips and salsa are always fresh unlike other restaurants that often serve stale chips and watery salsa. Rice and beans sides are among the best I've ever had. Meats are tender and not mushy or overcooked. All dishes are always served hot and quickly. And last of all there are the Margs. American-made versions of Margaritas are not very authentic. If you want a real one make it yourself at home or try the ones at Papa Juan's. However their version is the best in town as are the ones served at the other 2 locations; Villa's Patio and La Camilia. Adelitas is highly recommended. UPDATE: I no longer recommend Villa's Patio or the margs at Papa Juan's. However, I am still a frequent customer of Adelitias and have never had a bad meal or service.

Lime margaritas are great. Unique menu includes cactus. Not your run of the mill Mexican. Our new fav.

I ate dinner here last night with my father. We recently moved across town to the area two months ago and are still exploring the restaurants and what's available. It was busy, but we only had to wait about five minutes, which I thought was very good for a Friday night. The menu was great: several options and it was more than the same ol' combination dishes at most Mexican restaurants. I ordered the Traditional Chimichangas and my father ordered the Enchiladas Marinas. We both loved our meals; they were hot, delicious, and very filling--I was only able to eat one of the chimichangas and brought the other home. I will definitely return again to try the other menu items. I am only giving it 4/5 stars because the entryway gets congested. The bar, waiting area, and hostess station is concentrated into such a small area; especially with servers coming and going, that small walkway was very busy.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
